Tempted by the Rohan Sale
Less than three weeks into the
New Year and already one of the resolutions is in jeopardy! Despite numerous tempting
emails, I had managed to keep away from the Rohan Sale website until OH decided
that he needed a new jacket for his continuation of the Camino in March. Our
favourite French outdoors shop, Decathlon, had nothing suitable and a trip to
the ‘mountain shop’ in Limoges was likely to be expensive. It was time to have
a quick look to see if there were any bargains to be had at Rohan.
If the cost per wear was calculated
then I’m sure that even at full price the jackets are good value. OH has two
Rohan jackets that are at least ten years old, although one has now been
relegated to chopping wood and outdoor jobs, the other, lighter, packable
jacket goes everywhere in his rucksack as an emergency waterproof. We quickly narrowed
the choice down to three suitable jackets, all totally waterproof, breathable
and with differing levels of technicality. We decided that the least expensive
was more suitable as an everyday jacket and the most expensive would take you
up Everest. The choice of the Mountain Leader in a great chilli pepper red
colour would be great for the Camino as it was lightweight, quick drying,
packable and the pockets were designed for rucksack access.
Of course, it wasn’t worth
incurring the delivery charge to France (£15 anywhere in the world) just for
one jacket. So, as the Mens Classic bags were also in the sale we added a pair
of these and stocked up on some Cool Silver underwear. Just time for me to have
a quick look at the Womenswear sale items before placing the order… Bearing in
mind my resolution not to buy anything in a sale that did not fit into my
Project 333 capsule plan, I checked my spreadsheet to see what items I had
identified for replacement. Of course, the fleeces and long sleeve t-shirts I
had bought in Stratford were now in the sale, but I resisted the temptation to
buy these in different colours. My sale treats have been restricted to an
Essence t-shirt in Neptune blue and a black Ultra Silver camisole, both fit
perfectly into the planned spring/summer capsule.
Unlike the Christmas cards that
took three weeks to arrive from the UK, an order placed on Sunday afternoon was
delivered by DHL on Thursday morning. We’re still keeping to the one in, (at
least) one out rule, so another bag has been filled ready for the clothing
bank. In fact, I’ve now thrown out virtually all the old saggy cotton vest tops
and a couple of t-shirts, although I’m still building up to fulfilling New Year’s
resolution number 1 and getting rid of the rest of the items that don’t fit
into my Project 333 capsules, maybe next week…
