New Year resolutions
This blog post is a bit late, given that we are halfway through January! Recent events here in France make my concerns about wardrobe minimalism seem trivial, but we must keep writing. #jesuischarlie
In many cultures, seven is considered to be a lucky number
and I recently read an interesting article explaining the science behind this.
However, my favourite number is five, so this year I have decided to restrict
my New Year Resolutions to five – five for 2015.
1.
Pluck up courage to recycle the thirty-five
items that do not fit into any of the planned seasonal capsules.
2.
Try to keep overall total of clothes at eighty
items.
3.
Restrict any new clothes purchases to technical
clothing.
4.
Plan new acquisitions, keeping to colour schemes
to ensure that any new items coordinate with existing capsules and avoid buying
sale items that do not fit into the plan, just because they are cheap/
seemingly good value.
5.
Tackle the remaining areas – shoes, bags,
scarves, accessories and underwear.
Although my resolutions are
centred on the wardrobe plan and Project 333, there are other areas where I
would like to introduce an element of minimalism. Towards the end of 2014 I did
one round of electronic decluttering and tackled the numerous boxes of
redundant electrical devices and what seemed to be the world’s largest
collection of usb leads. Whilst searching for some old Christmas cards I
recently came across yet another box of stuff and a disparate collection of
leads, so there is clearly further work to be done. I also need to consider
whether I really need to hang on to an old electric sewing machine that I was
given by an Aunt (given that I have neither the time, skill, nor inclination to
use it) and the second hand clarinet I bought off Ebay three years ago. Outside both the barn and the boiler room
need a thorough sort out, but that will have to wait for a fine spring day.
