Whilst I have been working on Project 333 in the larder, the kitchen and the campervan I have not been neglecting the wardrobe. In fact, now that my entire wardrobe is pretty much 100% technical clothing I rarely have to think about what to wear. The seasonal capsules seem to formulate themselves naturally. However, I decided it was time for a full review. A few items have crept into the closet recently, and I wanted to check how these fitted in to the overall plan and whether there was scope for any more donations to recycling. The total clothes count, including coats but excluding shoes, bags and scarves, now stands at 74 items. I’d like to keep it below 80, so a visit to the Rohan summer sale is not ruled out.

Today it’s the first of July and the weather is forecast to be over 35°c so it seemed an ideal opportunity to put together a summer capsule. We’ve only just returned from a campervan trip down to Spain where the weather ranged from 35o as we are expecting this week, to a cooler 24o up in the Pyrenees. I’d thrown in the usual spring/ summer selection, pretty much the same as I’d taken to Portugal in February, with the addition of shorts and thinner trousers. I could have got away with less clothes, but space is not an issue in the ‘van and the technical clothes are so lightweight they almost don’t count. I reckon I wore about three quarters of the items taken, and we did wash out t-shirts a couple of times. I’ve still not had the opportunity to wear my new Rohan travel linen trousers, which proves that I certainly didn’t need three pairs of creased linen trousers!

The summer capsule came together easily after I’d checked through the wardrobe and drawers, and the grand total is exactly 33 items. Only two items don’t fit the technical criteria. There’s no summer clothes left over in the closet so this capsule is made up of all of my summer clothes. I’m afraid that the bag for the clothing bank is quite small. I’ve finally decided to throw out the light brown – OK, beige – waterproof jacket with the ripped pocket, a pair of brown jeans that somehow missed the previous cull and were lurking in the suitcase, and a quick turn-around on a pair of very cheap sandals bought from Decathlon on impulse that rub my toes.
