Project 333 moves into the kitchen
I’ve been neglecting the blog recently, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve
been neglecting the Project. The clothes are pretty much under control at the
moment, although I’m due a spot of capsule planning at the end of the month –
once the weather has decided what it is doing. We’ve had a couple of short
trips out in the campervan, so I’ll soon be reporting on my campervan mini-capsule
plus an early summer capsule I am working on for a longer trip down to northern
Spain. In the meantime, I’ve been looking at other areas of the house, or
indeed the campervan where the principles of the Project can be applied.
When the campervan arrived one of the first things I had to do was equip
the kitchen. Fortunately, I had our picnic equipment and quite a few duplicate
items in the house that could be transferred, so I only had to buy some
lightweight melamine crockery and an aluminium stacking saucepan set. Whilst it
might be tempting to buy some cheap household crockery and saucepans, weight –
or payload as is the technical term – is crucial in a motorhome. We are limited
to an overall weight of 3.5 tonnes including the motorhome itself, all the
extras fitted such as the solar panel, TV and awning, plus our food, water and
clothes. There may be plenty of lockers and cupboards, but it’s essential not
to take everything including the kitchen sink (especially as the sink is
built-in!).
I decided to apply the rule of 33 to all the kitchen utensils and
equipment. In fact, it is surprising how few gadgets are actually required.
