Rohanfest
We don’t really “do” Christmas in
this household and anyway we do have rather a large present coming in February.
However, as I hadn’t bought any new clothes for about two years – that may be a
slight exaggeration – I have recently
been trying out the mail order service from my favourite outdoor clothing shop,
Rohan. I’m a great fan of their clothes as they always fit me and seem to last
for ever. Most of my Rohan wardrobe dates back to our campervanning days and
are over eight years old, so I took advantage of a trip to the UK in November
to visit the Stratford on Avon shop for a mini-spree. Happy with the sizing,
I’m now quite confident about ordering on line.
The OH bought a pair of the
infamous ‘bags’ and so was pleased with the fact they are in different leg
lengths that the minute we got back to France he regretted not buying a pair in
a different colour. What further excuse did I need? I placed our first order, which
arrived by DHL in less than five days – even with my dodgy directions to the
driver. Of course, no sooner had I clicked the checkout than I found a
microgrid fleece in exactly the colour I’d been searching for ages.
I tried to talk myself out of
placing another order, after all it’s quite likely that some items will be in
the post-Christmas sale, but I remembered the advice that you should only buy
clothes you like, even if they are not on sale, rather than waiting to buy sale
items that are not quite right. So, a couple of days ago I placed another
order. Not wanting to be the only one with a Rohan xmas pressie, I kindly
ordered some new pants for the OH!
I’m so pleased with the ‘black
rose’ microgrid fleece that I’m wearing it today, the day after it arrived,
even though it’s not technically in the winter capsule wardrobe. I’m fighting the ‘save it for best’ brigade.
The matching ‘black rose’ trousers are probably a bit too thin for this time of
year, but the microgrid fits in so well with all the other colours in the
capsule that I’m going to squeeze it in somewhere. My ‘rohanfest’ this year
amounts to eight new items, all in colours which integrate with the other
capsule elements. Now just to find a couple of things for the ‘one in, one out’
principle and avoid the temptation of the sales.
